We did a nice little remix for our throw back Motown lady Maiko Watson. The track is her first single from her new record, the track is call 'Some Kind of Love'. The entire record was produced by our very own Mark Penner (Cylist) and features pretty much the entire cast of our funk fusion band Moses Mayes.

Enjoy!
It's November, but maybe -4 here at night so far, great for Winnipeg....
We played at the Forks last weekend for the Santa Clause Parade - very odd gig you would think for an electronic band. But shit, those kids and parents (and teenagers) danced their lil buts off! That was a lot of fun, we had a great time and made some new fans and friends.
We're not playing for a bit, time to spend some time in the studio getting the tracks ready for release! But here are some photos from the event, some video is on it's way!

After what has been a barrage of shows in Winnipeg we finally have some time to head back to work on some more music. We got two new original tracks and two remix's that Mark and Nathan have been working endless hours over. Both are for bands from the YYZ Label out of Toronto - TMDP and Madrid. Mark produced a brilliant remix of TMDP's song 'Montage' off their latest release, it's a straight up modern disco sound. Nathan on the other hand did up a 80's synth and clap inspired remix of Madrid's 'Ironways'. Then we all get together and rip them apart and put em back together - thing is, as I write this blog, I just realized I am telling you about some music we can't even post yet....mmm, smart one.
Regardless, they sound brilliant and we will let you know when they are available.
Now, as I sit here writing this, Mark is doing some more tweaking to a song I kept posting on my Facebook status as 'Holy shit Mark wrote a killer track'. He did, it's insane and our friend Mike B will be debuting a demo version of it on his POP! ET CETERA promotion download compilation. Oh? Haven't heard of POP! ET CETERA yet? Winnipeg's finest new Indie Rock and Electronic festival? Well, head on over to the site to find out more - http://popetc.ca. Our support slot of Shout Out Out Out is part of this fine new gem of a fest. Maybe you should check some of the shows out? I suggest pretty much every one of them if you can do it, otherwise pick and choose at your liking.
Ok, so since I am telling you about our music but not posting any of it, here is a link to something I think we have all been enjoying: The Phenomenal Handclap Bandhttp://www.myspace.com/phenomenalhandclapHave a fine day all you internet addicted humans....mwha!

I was introduced to these guys by my friend Doug about a year ago - the track that eyes first was 'Checkin on My Pumas'. Why? It may be my former love for Puma shoes as a teenager, I had about five pairs and well, love them to death. The track itself proved to be an ear grabber now - its was a throwback sound to my youth and one I was pretty sure would catch the ears of those of my age and younger.
The Lyrics are clever, the beat is of a non traditional rap style and the chorus melody was so bloody catchy I found my self singing all week. 'She asked me what's my secret, my shoes, my shoes'. Damn that's good.
Anyway, they are dropping their debut record on September 15th and I suggest you check out the tracks being leaked on their myspace page every other day. This is great original throwback sound, that's the best way I can describe....peep it here:

Wow, our first article and interview and we make the cover of our local weekly rag. Thanks to all the peeps in this city for spreading the LeBeato buzz, we have been insanely humble from the last year, we can't wait to bring it out into the rest of the world.

So Nathan and I were in the studio the other day trying out Nathan's new, well old but new to him, Korg Polysix. We wondered how people in the olden days synced the timing of the arpeggiator to the music they were recording. Then we noticed an Arpeggio trigger input on the keyboard. We DL'd the manual and found out that if we send a repeating sound (like a kick drum) to that input, the arpeggiator would sync to it. We made a video showing how it's done. The video is probably only interesting to gear heads but that's OK. feel free to contact us with any questions.

We've made our first official LeBeato Mix - we like to call it the Cherry Mix Vol.1. We compiled this mix the other night, myself and Mark got together at the studio with nothing planned, so we decided to do this up. It's a brilliant little mix of electro, dance, techno and some remix's. We also plugged in a remix of Moses Mayes' track 'Being'.

We finally got some tracks mixed. It seems the live show has been easy for us to get together but recording has been tough. I think it mostly has to do with knowing when to let go. So, we let go of this tracks for your ears... check out the fancy new myspace.
Keys n Krates are tearing up the club scene combining DJ cuts and live mash up with a full on band. I first came across these guys about a year ago from a YouTube video that friend sent me. I was like dope, can't wait to see where this goes. Led by Jr.Flo, one talented tablist, this four piece band has definitely turned up to 11 with their unique live remix set. Caught them at CMW 09 in Toronto and they did not disappoint. The room filled up for them and cleared out when they were done - they got something going on.
So make sure to check em out, they only play exclusive dates here in Canada and by looks of things they are blowing up in the USA so won't be long before you won't see em up here.
Winnipeg, mark it down, June 27 at the Pyramid for Jazz Fest (which by the way, is the only Jazz Fest to book them this year, once again pushing the boundaries for the rest of the big ones to follow...just you watch! LeBeato is opening this one too....werd.

The name is very hard to search, but once you find these glam punk electronic gods and a goddess you are good to go.
Creature, a 4 piece Montreal act, is getting some attention these days. My head honcho in Toronto asked me what I thought of these guys, MSNed over the link and here we are. I am singing ha ha hooooo. They kinda remind of a much cooler version of NoDoubt with a hip male voice scatting hiphop style ho's and ha's here and there.
Throw in these francophone daring threads and style and we have us the next 'next' in the live band dance genre (is that a genre?). Really feeling lead track on the myspace 'Pop Culture', love the distorted vocals...maybe its the rock guitarmonies that catch me?
Dig...

TMDP Partieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Here's a band I actually rep at the agency, so maybe I'm flaggin it for the wrong reason....but I'm not.
These guys are the shit - they do it up live too which many electronics acts can't do. Who's the act? They are called TMDP and they just released their self titled debut record on YYZ records (check that shit out too, they are gonna be hot in the next year). Love these guys, love the label and they are all real nice boys from Toronto.
Here's a mix they made: http://tmdp.ca/mixes/TMDP_April_2009_Mix.mp3
Here's their myspace page: www.myspace.com/tmdpparty

Insanely super cheesy title.
The aim of this blog is to share music that we are all discovering. Whether or not the other guys in the band have caught on to share with you, I don't know. We rarely talk about anything else then ex girls, old shows, ex band members....oh yeah, music.
Anyway, Ruby Jean and the Thoughtful Bees are from Halifax. I am not a fan of the band name, they should maybe drop the last part me thinks.
Regardless, I do dig there rocktronica mixed with French vocals reminiscent somewhat of Alice Glass (who btw, I bummed a smoke to outside the royal york couple weeks back). Makes me feel like I am part of dirty leather clad future in a dark dank bar where they only serve two type of drinks. Anyhoo, some friends of mine out East shot this over to me...hope you dig it

It's the best thing to discover new music ain' it? I always feel even better bout it when that new music comes from your very own city.
Mike B told us about these guys.
When I showed it to Mark he was like "WTF??? Where the hell did these guys come from! We have a scene now". Yes, yes we do.
We asked them to open for Moses, we're also planning a LeBeato show with them in May.
Joy.
